How Yoga Became My Favorite Way To Rest

Introduction


One of my favorite hobbies to do is yoga. Yoga has become one of my favorite things to do, even though I despised it at first and never really expected it to become part of my daily routine. At first, I thought yoga was very boring and only about stretching or being really flexible. Yoga intimidated me at first, but over time it became something I turn to when I'm feeling stressed, clear my mind, or take a break from being online too much. Yoga has become my go-to reset whenever school keeps me busy and stressed. 


How I Got Into Yoga

I first got into yoga when I was feeling very stressed, overwhelmed with classes, and constantly doomscrolling on my phone. I started noticing that I would spend a lot of time scrolling on TikTok, especially when I was stressed, to help me feel better, but it never really helped. I was still overwhelmed and doomscrolling only pushed my problems away for a bit. One day, my roommates were doing yoga in our living room, and they said I should try it to relieve some stress that school was putting on me, so I did. We put on a beginner yoga video but I didn't expect that it would help me much but it did. After doing that beginner yoga I felt more calm and relaxed which made me want to keep trying it. 

Why Yoga Became Important to Me 

What I enjoy most about yoga is that it not only helps my body calm down but also helps my mental health. It forces me to slow down and pay attention to how I'm really feeling instead of just bottling it away and scrolling through TikTok. Even doing yoga for just 10 mins a day helps me feel less stressed and anxious. I also realized that yoga also helps me balance out how much time I actually spend social media instead of doing other productive activities. 


Why Yoga Matters in a Digital World

In a generation where digital media is more common than anything else, yoga helps me disconnect from this world in a healthy way. It gives me time to reset my mental health without any distractions and helps me relax. This hobby has taught me many things including the importance of balancing my time on and off social media. So if you are ever feeling anxious,nervous, or stressed out try some yoga maybe it can also be a hobby you take on!
